Carport Finalized - 01/01/13

The following post is a project update from Nick Gauna, Campaign Organizer for all organizations West of the Mississippi River, and the Black Rock Solar Grassroots campaign that raised $2,550 for installation of a solar carport at the Shade Tree.

Las Vegas - And just 6 short months after our campaign ended, we have a final update about the impressive solar carport from our friends over at Black Rock Solar and The Shade Tree. Jessica, Communications Specialist at Black Rock, passed on some fantastic photos and this nice note:

“We’ve finished building the array at The Shade Tree. There are shots of the crew working at night (they worked from midnight to 8 a.m. to beat the Vegas heat), as well as before and after photos of the carport being covered with the solar panels.

Unfortunately it’s difficult to get a good shot of all three sections of the array, but for your information, it covers the carport and includes two groups of panels on each of the adjacent roofs.

The array is complete and should be commissioned (officially turned on) very soon.

And we couldn’t have done it without Groupon ;)

Black Rock Solar did a fantastic job in erecting this carport in such a timely fashion and it was fun to follow it step by step.

Donated Paint to Beautify the Carport - 07/03/12

The following post is a project update from Nick Gauna, Campaign Organizer for the West Coast and Pacific Northwest , and the Black Rock Solar Grassroots campaign that raised $2,550 for installation of a solar power array at The Shade Tree.

An unexpected—but welcome—update from our friends at Black Rock Solar.
The Black Rock Solar team has diligently worked to fully erect the carport frame, and installation of the solar panels should begin soon. While all this was going on, a construction company took notice and generously offered its services and expertise to help beautify this project. Baja Construction provided all the paint and labor for the carport, which is now ready for the final stages of installation. Check out photos of the finished carport frame below. Major fist bumps to Baja Construction from the Groupon Grassroots team!

Completed Solar Carport - 06/26/12

The following post is a project update from Nick Gauna, Campaign Organizer for the West Coast and Pacific Northwest , and the Black Rock Solar Grassroots campaign that raised $2,550 for installation of a solar power array at The Shade Tree.

Black Rock Solar is cruising right along getting the solar-power array installed at the Shade Tree. Last update, we saw the delivery of the solar materials and the demolition of the lot to clear for installation. Justin has updated me with progress on the completed solar carport (which serves as the base for the solar panels). Here are some photos from the construction:

Arrival of Solar Panel Materials - 06/18/12

Materials for solar carport construction delivered on site on June 18

Las Vegas – It was a pleasure working with Justin, Southern Nevada program manager, and featuring the great work of Black Rock Solar. Building solar-power arrays at reduced prices for a variety of nonprofits and other organizations, Black Rock Solar identified The Shade Tree (a Groupon Grassroots alum) as the organization they would help as part of our Earth Day re-launch spectacular.

Installation has begun and Justin passed along several photos of the materials arriving at the Shade Tree. We will check in several months down the road to see the completed solar-power array.
