Installing Seating and Beautification at Tavon Center Garden
The following post is a project update from Nick Gauna, Campaign Organizer for the West Coast and Pacific Northwest, and the Tavon Center Grassroots campaign that raised $1,770 for constructing new seating in the Tavon Center garden.
Seattle – When I got the application from Megan, program director at the Tavon Center, I knew there was a great opportunity for a campaign, but that we had to move quickly as the date for her project was rapidly approaching. After explaining the Grassroots program and hearing about the Build a Bench-a-thon, I informed Megan of the quick turnaround needed to get the campaign featured in time, and she hit the ground running.
In fewer than 48 hours, Megan produced all of the necessary materials needed to get the campaign featured, and it paid off. In raising $1,770, enough funds were raised to get all of the benches installed in the garden, with a little left over that went toward landscaping and beautifying the space.
When I checked up with Megan after the campaign closed and the Build-a-Bench-a-thon was completed, she described the great day and all that was accomplished. Though hard rains persisted most of the day, a dedicated team of volunteers fought off the elements to complete the job. Here are a few photos from the event, as well as a quick snapshot of what was completed.
An Update from Megan at Tavon Center:
“More than 50 volunteers battled the rain, and after five hours of work, produced six garden benches, rid the garden of weeds, cleared truck loads of wood and junk to take to the dump, and began the construction of a chicken-coop run. They also enjoyed fajitas for lunch and warm brownies for snack. The clients of Tavon were able to lend a hand in painting and staining the garden benches.”
